Eyewitness News Continues Momentum with February 2014 Ratings

Makes impressive gains in early evening newscasts and 11pm news

During the February 2014 ratings period, Eyewitness News on WPRI 12 and Fox Providence continued its trend of growing audience on its broadcast and digital screens in the competitive Providence/New Bedford television market. Highlights of the February 2014 ratings period include:

  • By far, Eyewitness News has the biggest ratings increases in all early evening newscasts in the local DMA
  • Eyewitness News at Noon is #1 in key ratings & demographics
  • Eyewitness News at 10pm has significant increases book–to-book
  • Eyewitness News at 11pm is up year-to-year across all demos

While Eyewitness News at Noon on WPRI 12 was up year-to-year in all key demos, the show was #1 with A25-54. In addition, Eyewitness News saw tremendous gains across all of its early evening newscasts.

When it comes to early evening news growth, Eyewitness News saw the most by a landslide. Eyewitness News at 5pm on WPRI 12 continued its growth year-to-year, up 62% with A18-49 and up 40% with A25-54. Eyewitness News at 5:30pm on WPRI 12 was up 62% with A18-49 and up 23% A25-54. Eyewitness News at 6pm on WPRI 12 experienced significant growth in key demos, up 56% in A18-49 and up 40% with A25-54. Overall, Eyewitness News improved its early evening news growth from 5pm to 6:30pm in key demographics an average of 53% in A18-49 and 33% in A25-54.

In the late news race, Eyewitness News at 10 on Fox Providence had significant increases from the November 2013 ratings period and was consistent year-to-year. Eyewitness News at 11 on WPRI 12 was up book-to-book. The 11pm news was also up year-to-year with an increase of 64% in A18-49 and A25-54.

In other key programming, The Rhode Show on WPRI 12 continued to see terrific growth. Rhode Island’s only local, lifestyle, news and entertainment program was up substantially with viewers, up 43% in W35+ year-to-year and also averaging 49% increases across most major demographics.

For its digital multi-screen coverage, WPRI.com was #1 in total desktop uniques (within the local DMA) according to the most recent comScore measures. WPRI.com also saw growth on its mobile platform by 29% year-to-year.
