Eyewitness News Shows Growth in July Ratings

10pm News on Fox Providence is #1 late news

In the July 2013 Nielsen ratings period, Eyewitness News showed significant growth with its late night newscasts and was #1 in late news, beating all local newscasts in the key demographic of A18-49.  Eyewitness News also demonstrated terrific growth with its weekend morning news coverage, again winning in A18-49, with its early evening newscasts and showing sustained growth across its digital screens.

The late news growth experienced in the May 2013 ratings period continued during the July measurements with Eyewitness News at 10 on Fox Providence winning the late night news race outright. In July 2013, Eyewitness News at 10 on Fox Providence was up in all key demos- up 27% in A18-49 and up 10% in A25-54. Eyewitness News at 11pm on WPRI 12 was also up year to year 23% in A18-49, up 47% in A25-54 and up 32 % in W25 -54. The fact remains that more viewers are getting their late night news from Eyewitness News on Fox Providence at 10pm and WPRI 12 at 11pm.

The success for Eyewitness News also extends to its weekend morning news coverage.  On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, Eyewitness News was #1 among A18-49 and tied for #1 in A25-54. In particular, Eyewitness News This Morning, airing Sundays from 6am to 9am on WPRI 12, was up 50% in A18-49, up 44% in A25-54 and up a whopping 150% in W25-54.

In addition, Eyewitness News saw solid growth with its early evening newscasts. Eyewitness News Live at 5 and Eyewitness News at 5:30 each saw a 10% increase in A25-54 from last July.  Eyewitness News at 6 grew all key demos in its time period. The 6pm news increased by 31% in A18-49, 17% in A25-54, and 14% W25-54.

The Rhode Show on WPRI 12 was another success story from the July 2013 book. Rhode Island’s only local, lifestyle, news and entertainment program saw significant growth in Women 35+, growing 72%.

WPRI 12 and Fox Providence also excelled in prime time programming. The top 3 July primetime shows for A25-54 and A18-49 aired on WPRI 12 and Fox Providence.

WPRI’s growth also extends to its digital multi-screen coverage. WPRI.com delivered more desktop unique visitors in July 2013. WPRI.com saw a 16% growth in desktop unique visitors year to year, more than any other local TV website. WPRI.com is also the #1 mobile site in terms of unique visitors among all media mobile platforms in the market.
