Eyewitness News Wins & Makes Significant Gains in November Ratings
Number 1 at 5am, Noon, Saturday AM, virtual tie in late news
and impressive growth in early evening

During the November 2013 ratings period, Eyewitness News on WPRI 12 and Fox Providence had significant wins and impressive growth on its broadcast and digital screens in the competitive Providence/New Bedford television market.

Highlights include:

  •   Eyewitness News This Morning was the #1 newscast weekdays at 5am
  •   Eyewitness News at Noon also achieved the #1 position in the market
  •   Eyewitness News at 10pm on Fox Providence was a virtual tie in late news
  •   Eyewitness News This Morning on Saturdays was the #1 newscast
  •   Eyewitness News from 5pm to 6:30pm grew viewership in all key demographics
  •   WPRI has dramatic growth in AM & early evening news while WJAR decreases in all newscasts

More specifically, Eyewitness News This Morning at 5am on WPRI 12 won in both key demos of Adults18-49 and Adults 25-54. Eyewitness News This Morning at 6am on WPRI 12 saw dramatic increases as well, up 155% with Adults 18-49 and up 115% with Adults 25-54. Overall, Eyewitness News improved its morning growth from 5am to 7am in key demographics an average of 160% and continues to close the gap on WJAR. WJAR’s morning news decreased 32% with Adults 25-54. Eyewitness News This Morning at 7am on Fox Providence increased 25% with Adults 25 -54, while Eyewitness This Morning at 8am on Fox Providence saw an increase of 100% with Adults 18-49 and 200% with Adults 25-54.

While Eyewitness News at Noon was once again #1 with Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, the success for Eyewitness News also extends to the early evening. From 5pm to 6:30pm, Eyewitness News grew the key demo of Adults 25-54 by 22%. This growth was at its closest competitor’s expense. WJAR was down 15% in Adults 25-54. In the late news race, Eyewitness News at 10 on Fox Providence was in a virtual tie for #1 in late, local news.

In other key programming, The Rhode Show on WPRI 12 continues to be a success story. Rhode Island’s only local, lifestyle, news and entertainment program was up 130% in Women 35+ year to year. It also averaged 50% increases across most major demographics. WPRI’s growth also extends to its digital multi-screen coverage. According to comScore, WPRI.com was the top broadcast website in Rhode Island for unique visitors.
